Our Establishment

The Hon’ble Minister for Forests, during the Budget Session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for the year 2021–22 held on 03.09.2021, announced the establishment of the Tamil Nadu Forests and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (TNFWCCB) with the objective of strengthening the State-level mechanism for detection, prevention, and investigation of organized forest and wildlife crimes. Initially, the Bureau was envisaged with four zonal offices located at Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Ramanathapuram to ensure effective territorial coverage and coordinated enforcement operations across the State.

Subsequently, in order to further reinforce the operational capacity of the Bureau and to address emerging challenges in wildlife crime control, an additional zonal office at Krishnagiri was created vide G.O.(Ms) No. 97, Environment, Climate Change and Forests (ECCF) Department, dated 02.11.2021. The Tamil Nadu Forests and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 08.08.2023, marking a significant milestone in the State’s efforts to combat organized forest and wildlife offences. The Headquarters of the Bureau commenced functioning with effect from the same date at the 7th Floor, Panagal Building, Saidapet, Chennai.

The TNFWCCB is headed by the Director in the rank of Senior Duty Post of the Indian Forest Service (IFS), ensuring leadership at a senior level with requisite administrative and field experience. At present, the Bureau functions through a structured network comprising five zonal offices and fourteen Forest Stations, enabling focused intelligence-based operations, inter-agency coordination, and effective enforcement of forest and wildlife protection laws throughout the State.
